Deer Velvet Powers Team at Adventure Racing World Champs
Sponsored by New Zealand deer velvet, Team “Powered by Velvet.org.nz” is currently second in the Adventure Racing World Championship Southern Traverse held on the West Coast of New Zealand.
On the morning of 14 November, 47 teams set of from the West Coast on a grueling 450 kilometer race of 24 hour a day kayaking, running, mountain biking, caving and trekking. The World Championship Southern Traverse takes the teams from sea level, into the Southern Alps, and back to finish in Westport 6 days later. Teams from the USA, Canada, Brazil, Japan, France, Denmark, Australia, and New Zealand compete in this most important race of the adventure racing calendar.
Team “Powered by velvet.org.nz” is taking velvet as a sports nutritional supplement to help increase endurance, aid muscle recovery and support sore joints while racing. And it’s working. Out of a field of 47 teams, they have consistently been on the leader board and have been placed as high as second.
Richard Anderson, manager of the New Zealand ARC 24 Hour Adventure Racing Series and team captain, was excited when Daimien Reynolds, GM Marketing of Deer Industry New Zealand, approached him with a sponsorship offer. When Richard heard how velvet could aid performance, he immediately got his team onto velvet and they are reaping the benefits. Reporting from the race on Tuesday, Richard said “many of the teams were travelling together through the night – Powered By velvet.org.nz got away by taking a different route which obviously worked!”, jumping them from 19th to 7th position at the end of the first trek, and then to 2nd mid afternoon on Tuesday.
Professional teams from all around the world are here to compete. Being amateurs, if they can finish on the leader board or better they will be ecstatic.
Velvet is a natural sports nutritional product with many health benefits that aid sports people and those that enjoy a more relaxed pace of life.
