Deer Industry New Zealand (DINZ) welcomes two new directors and returns one director to the DINZ Board after the conclusion of the selection and appointment process, with producer appointments confirmed yesterday.
The DINZ Board is made up of eight members, four appointed by producers through the New Zealand Deer Farmers’ Association Selection and Appointment Panel (NZDFA SAP) and four appointed by processors/exporters.
Manawatu deer stud breeder and animal scientist Simone Hoskin is the new director appointed by producers, while the new processor-appointed director is Rob Kidd, General Manager of Duncan NZ.
“Our amazing deer industry has given me an incredible lifetime full of opportunities, knowledge, challenges, success, fun and camaraderie,” says Hoskin. “It’s been humbling and a rollercoaster at times, but I’m still here after thirty-two years because of the people.”
“I bring a depth and breadth of skills, knowledge and advocacy to the DINZ Board, and plan on helping ensure future generations have the same opportunities with deer that I’ve had in a successful, robust and vibrant industry.”
Rob Kidd was the first DINZ board observer back in 2019 and remains just as committed and passionate about the industry as he did back then.
“The industry faces a number of challenges and opportunities, just as it did 50 years ago during its beginnings,” says Kidd. “The challenges and opportunities may have changed but addressing them will require the same key tenants that has taken the industry this far – namely grit, smart decision making, calculated risks and passion.
“I am humbled to have been nominated and supported by my fellow exporters.”
Hamish Fraser returns to the board as a producer-appointed director.
“The industry thanks the retiring members for their time on the board and contributions made throughout their tenure,” says DINZ Board Chair Paddy Boyd. “They can step down knowing they have contributed to the advancement of our industry.”
“I welcome Simone and Rob onto the board, excited to see the fresh ideas and perspectives they bring. In saying that, I also welcome Hamish’s reappointment, and the stability and consistency that brings.”
